Panchakarma therapy has a pivotal Role in Ayurveda treatment. Ayurveda emphasizes preventive & healing therapies along with various methods of purification & rejuvenation of human body.
According to Ayurveda, every human being is manifested through the five basic elements AKASH, VAYU, JALA, AGNI & PRITHVI called as Panchamahabhuta. A combination of Akash & Vayu is Vata, combination of Agni is Pitta, a combination of Jal & Prithvi is kapha are called the Tridoshas. Each individual constitution is determined by the relative proportions of these three doshas at the time of fertilization. When the embryo is formed, the constitution is determined.
Every individual has its own unique balance of Vata, Pitta & Kapha according to its own nature.
VATA, PITTA and KAPHA, which together regulate and control the catabolic and anabolic metabolism Which stay in equilibrium while keeping the body healthy and wholesome and if contaminated cause disorders in the same body. Among these three, Vata is the subtle energy of movement and drives the function of Pitta & Kapha and triggered due to false diet and regimen to another place and causes the disease. In such a case, according to the laws of nature, if the doshas growing in the human body that should be balanced at the same time through cleansing of body, it will be healthier, right?
Since the attributes of vata are dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile and clear, any of these qualities in excess can cause imbalance. During summer the VATA Dosha aggrevates in the large intestine and till rainy season it becomes almost vigorous. Thus, to maintain balance patient should be treated with Basti (enema). Basti prevents the VATA dosha from causing disorder such as Osteo Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Paralysis, Gout in the body. Also, in the autumn, the PITTA that is infuriated in the gallbladder can be removed from the body by the Panchakarma treatment called 'VIRECHAN'(purgation). Therefore, future biliary diseases like cholera, acidosis, haemoptysis, dermatitis can be controlled.
In the spring, the aggrevated Kapha in the stomach can be eliminated from the body by the scientific treatment of 'VAMAN' (scientific emesis). Every year till the age of forty.
Vaman - The procedure has been carried out to remove kapha in toxic form. Vitiated dosha are eliminated through the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Virechan - the procedure has been carried out to remove pitta dosha in toxic form by the use of laxative medicine.
Basti - Basti is an enema of herbal oils or decoctions used in Ayurveda. Basti is one of the five Pradhana Karmas of Panchakarma and it is used to treat vata disorders.
The nose is the doorway to the brain, and it is also the doorway to consciousness. The nasal administration of medication is called Nasya. An excess of bodily humors accumulated in the sinus, throat, nose or head areas is eliminated by means of the nearest possible opening, the nose.
Toxins present in the gastrointestinal tract are absorbed into the blood and circulated throughout the body, which is the basic cause of repeated infections, this includes repeated attacks of skin disorders such as urticaria, rashes, herpes, eczema, acne, scabies, leukoderma. In such conditions, along with internal medication, elimination of the toxins and purification of the blood is necessary. Raktamokshan (bloodletting)is the procedure by which one could get relief from skin disorders.
In some cases, participating in a cleansing program, called panchakarma, is suggested to help the body rid itself of accumulated toxins to gain more benefit from the various suggested measures of treatment.
